Thanks to The Vida Agency for trusting me to create a series of animations for the Port of Seattle’s Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP).

The plan outlines 31 potential projects that could shape the future of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, from a new terminal and airfield upgrades to improved transportation access.

But some of the most important stories around an airport aren’t about runways or terminals - they’re about the people who work there, travel through it, and live in the surrounding communities.

That human focus became an important part of the visual direction. The project came with an existing brand and color palette, but there was room to evolve the visual language to make it feel warmer and more approachable. We softened the palette and developed a more contemporary illustration style, creating a cohesive world that could bring both the scale of the airport and the individual stories within it to life.

One of the main challenges was bringing busy airport environments to life within a tight production schedule. Rather than animating every character individually, movement was carefully prioritized across each composition. A combination of foreground and background action, smaller looping movements, and a few key animated moments helped the scenes feel busy and constantly alive without becoming visually overwhelming.

Localization added another layer to the animation process. The series was translated into multiple languages, some of which significantly increased the length of the voiceover. Scenes needed to be flexible enough to accommodate these timing changes, sometimes requiring extended action, additional animation, and new visual beats while maintaining the same overall pacing and storytelling.

The result was a flexible visual system that could handle complex, people-filled environments, communicate clearly across languages, and bring a large infrastructure plan back to the people at the center of it.
